The woman, who operates a food stand at the Les Deux Alpes resort, was questioned by France’s National Gendarmerie and later released while investigators gather additional evidence, according to a report by ynet News.
French prosecutors said the woman acknowledged making the remarks but provided investigators with what she described as the context surrounding the exchange. No decision has been made on whether she will face charges.

The controversy began after a video circulated widely on social media. In the recording, a customer asks the woman whom she meant when she said there were “too many” people. She responds that she was referring to the Jewish community.
The video quickly drew condemnation in France. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said an investigation had been opened after authorities were alerted to the footage, while government officials responsible for combating discrimination said antisemitic or racist conduct would not be tolerated.
The Grenoble prosecutor’s office said investigators are continuing to collect testimony and other evidence before determining the next steps in the case.

The entire Jewish population of the world, would fit into Paris and it’s suburbs. And 80% of them would be almost unidentifiable as Jews.

When the U.S. Army liberated Paris from the Nazis in 1944, our GI’s were welcomed as heroes. Today, it is a different story. With rare exceptions, unless one speaks French fluently, the French don’t appreciate people, who don’t speak French. One time, when I was at the City University of Paris, there were some African students who made a protest, about someone in our group, who was wearing a Kippah. However, I did meet a very nice French citizen who spoke English, and gave me directions on how to take three different subway lines from the Louvre Museum, to the City University of Paris, where I was staying. The negligent tour operator didn’t bother to do a head count, and left the museum, without checking to see if I was on board the bus. I was not late, but he was in a hurry, and took off. Since I was used to riding the NYC subways, the Metro in Paris was a breeze, and very easy to negotiate. One week later, when I was back in NYC, and on the subway, there was a French girl on the subway, who was crying bitterly, as she was lost. She was helped by a number of passengers.

“Too many of you.” This phrase has a long, ugly history. It is the language of exclusion, of othering, and it targets Jewish people with particular venom. This incident in the French Alps is not isolated. It reflects a dangerous undercurrent of antisemitism that must be confronted directly. French authorities are right to investigate. No one should face discrimination or hatred for their identity, especially not in a public place of business.
People should stop oublucly posting their incidents online because the reaction from antisemites is actually joy and support. It’s of no benefit-deal with it locally if you can.
