Ladino and his mother, who are originally from Bogotá, Colombia, run Luana Rose Modestly, a modest-fashion boutique on West Englewood Avenue that specializes in custom and semi-custom gowns for weddings and other special occasions.
The reason for their detention remains unclear.
Customers became concerned after they were unable to reach Ladino, including one woman whose daughter’s wedding dress was at the store with the wedding approaching.
Elie Y. Katz, the store’s landlord, went to the business with police and found packages accumulating outside the storefront. He helped customers retrieve completed dresses.
Katz later received a call from a detention facility and was able to speak briefly with Ladino, who authorized a relative to access the store and assist customers in retrieving their dresses.
Ladino also contacted a business associate and asked her to prepare the store’s inventory for a potential sale, with proceeds intended to help fund his legal defense, according to The Jewish Link.
Michael Wildes, managing partner of immigration law firm Wildes & Weinberg and a former federal prosecutor, said the case highlights the potential impact of immigration enforcement on families, businesses and local communities.
The circumstances surrounding the detentions, including the immigration allegations or proceedings involving Ladino and his mother, were not disclosed.
The case remains developing.

Illegal means illegal. We have become immune to certain phenomenons. We also have become very entitled here in the USA. People should get their status straightened out as soon as possible. Plenty of us married foreigners, we got down to business right after Sheva Brachos. It’s called responsibility. Don’t join the blame game.
One would hope that the xenophobia would subside slightly when we realize that normal members of the community are among the vilified hated ‘immigrants’.
Sad to see that people have so little compassion.
If it is impossible for people to understand that both respect for the law and compassion can exist at the same time, why did they choose to discard the second? Why not choose the first?
Ya think agents got confused between Ladino and Latino? I hope they could fix themselves out of this bind, but the law should be applied equally (yes, get deport violent offenders first) across all demographics. Visitors should remember not to overstay their visa and ensure all working visas and green card status is an order.
If they’re illegal , lock em up ,and ship em backhome!!
Every Jew in America was anrefugee or immigrant. Some came “illegally. Now some Jews are against refugees? Quite amazing.
I thought ice was to target criminal illegal immigrants. No, this is not right. Ice is targeting lawful people like this because it’s easier
this is why people should just follow halacha and the laws of the country they’re in. you don’t steal including from the government and they should be happy they aren’t being arrested and in jail. if they had the proper paperwork and followed honest business practices, then they should sue the government. if not they should be given sentencing as a consequence.
Apparently this bridal shop owner made a good living. He should have hired a lawyer to straighten out his paperwork. He did not. Now that ICE took him, he wants to sell his inventory and hire a law firm. It would have cost him less if he hired a lawyer years ago. Apparently, he never believed ICE would detain him. He thought wrong and now it will cost him. I don’t feel sorry for him. You uphold the laws of the land. Many of us waited for years for white papers
The immigration laws apply to all, both gentile and Jews. After 9/11/01, before ICE was in existence, the USA rounded up many individuals, including Israelis, who overstayed their visas, and deported them. Some were detained at the Brooklyn federal detention center. The Israelis do the same thing. Years ago, the Israelis extradited Meir Lansky from Israel, to to the USA, where he had lived peacefully with his family, to face trial, on federal charges. He was subsequently acquitted of all charges. Yet, the Israeli government, for whatever reason, refused to let him reenter Israel, even though he had broken no laws in Israel.
A few things here. Did they get busted at the store while they were working or were they swept up in an area that had other Latinos in there and they look like them so they got arrested with the other amigos. Or were they targeted by themselves? who snitched on them?
ICE!! your main job is to deport, deport, deport, evil dangerous murderous, illegal aliens and Muslims all of them back to their countries we don’t want Islamists taking over
Achzarim on the right have midas sdom. rishayim on the left welcome rotzchim ganavim miansim etc.
Tough time to be an American jew where most orthodox Jews have goyish values.
Judaism is obviously against the left, but we are not aligned with the right and certainly not aligned with the Republican party. In the past decade the Republicans are much father away from Judaism than a decade ago but more orthodox jews today are thinking like Republicans over Jewish jews because of their justified hatred of Democrats. We are too stupid to realize, to not join (mentally not talking voting as the much lesser of 2 evils) enemy of my enemy and I certainly should not become them. Most jews even non religious understood that just because the communists saved them from the nazis does not mean become communists. When the Republican party was more aligned with Jews during the Obama years most orthodox jews still voted Democrat, now that the Republicans are much worse than before we are not just voting Republican (good only as lesser of evils) but imiding their valies. This is terrible and I say this as someone who twice was offered to become a Republican presidential candadite delegate.
This situation shows how quickly lives can be upended. A family business, a community, and customers are all affected by these detentions. The lack of clarity around the reasons for their detention adds to the distress. Hopefully, the legal process will be swift and transparent.
So now Jews have been rounded up. There should be Nuremburg-style Trials for ICE administrators and street police for the crimes they have committed!
