WASHINGTON (VINnews) – Ron Halber, CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, called Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s comments about Jewish security an “absolute embarrassment” and urged widespread condemnation of her remarks.

Halber was responding to comments by Nessel in which she urged Jewish Democrats to consider broader global concerns when weighing issues involving their own safety.
“As the state’s highest-ranking Jewish official and chief law enforcement officer, her remarks are unconscionable,” Halber wrote in a LinkedIn post Tuesday.
Halber argued that Jewish Americans should not be asked to place their personal security or the safety of their families behind a political objective.
He also questioned Nessel’s position in light of her own decision to avoid the Michigan Democratic Party convention because of concerns about her personal safety.
“Who among you reading this post would entertain sacrificing your family’s safety for her altruistic goals?” Halber wrote.
Halber said there should be no conflict between Jewish security and what he described as the broader public good.
“In 2026, there should be no conflict between Jewish security and the greater good,” he wrote.
