Hebrew media reports said a man who appeared to be intoxicated entered the woman’s room about 3 a.m., struck her in the face while she was in bed and continued the attack until her screams brought family members from nearby rooms. Relatives subdued the suspect until police arrived and arrested him, the reports said.

The woman was taken to a Paris hospital with facial fractures and other injuries, according to Israeli media. Family members were working to fly her to Israel for further treatment, those reports said. The Foreign Ministry did not officially confirm her condition, the attacker’s identity or a detailed account of how the man entered the room.

Israel’s consul in Paris and the Foreign Ministry’s department that assists Israelis in distress abroad contacted the woman and her family after the incident was reported. Officials said they were remaining in continuous contact with the family, coordinating with French authorities and providing assistance “in every way possible.”

“Based on the circumstances of the incident as currently known, it does not appear that the assault was antisemitic in nature,” the ministry said. Officials added that no further official details had been released.

French police were investigating how the suspect reached the room and the circumstances of the attack.
