The rate will increase to $45 an hour after 40 hours worked in a week, up from $19.14 and $28.71, respectively.

The city is also moving registration to the fall. Those who register by Nov. 30 will qualify for a paid four-hour orientation in December and expedited payment processing, with the city aiming to issue paychecks within two weeks of work.

More than 7,800 New Yorkers participated in the program last winter, helping clear about 135,000 crosswalks, 34,000 bus stops and 29,000 fire hydrants during major snowstorms.

The first registration event will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Taft High School, 240 E. 172nd St. in the Bronx.

Applicants must be at least 18, legally authorized to work in the United States and able to perform physically demanding work in winter conditions. Photos will now be taken at registration, eliminating the previous requirement that applicants bring printed photographs.

Additional registration events will be announced by the Department of Sanitation.
