New York, NY – Family, friends and supporters of Jacob Ostreicher, who has been jailed in Bolivia for the past eleven months, will hold a rally in support of the New York businessman tomorrow, demanding his immediate release.

As previously reported on VIN News, Bolivian authorities have been investigating Ostreicher, one of a group of investors in a rice field in the Eastern Bolivian lowlands, on suspicion of money laundering. Charges have yet to be filed in the case.
The rally will take place on Thursday morning at 11 AM at the Permanent Mission of Bolivia to the United Nations, located at 211 East 43rd Street in Manhattan. In addition to Ostreicher’s friends and family, community leaders and public officials are also expected to attend.
The case has caught the public’s attention of the AP, and ABC News’ Nightline program airing this Friday night will be devoted to Ostreicher’s near year long detainment. Efforts by the State Department to discuss the issue have so far proved to be fruitless and the United Nations Human Rights Commission is monitoring the situation.
“This is just incredible. There is no reason for this. He is an innocent man,” Ostreicher’s wife, Miriam Ungar, told VIN News. “We know that it is a sacrifice for people to give of their time in the middle of the day and our family is so grateful to each and every person who will be attending the rally.”
Mrs. Ungar and her husband have five children and eleven grandchildren and she said that the children are having difficulty coping.
“The grandchildren used to spend every weekend with him and they don’t know what is going on,” said Mrs. Ungar. “It is hard to stay strong, but we have to keep doing whatever we can to help my husband. He is really suffering and his health is a serious concern. His freedom and his life are at stake here.”
Let’s hope for the best, in zchis of our father yakov who he is name after he sould be free very soon

Yeah! This is unbelievable, the definition of corruption is Bolivia.
The gathering tomorrow is meant to draw more attention of the nation and the world, I just hope that this case will be handled more professional as the rubashkin case.

Truly outrageous and so sad! Most people I know didn’t hear ANYTHING about the RALLY until last night… it’s upsetting that not enough people who care about this cause know about this rally, or even know what to do AFTER that….
here’s a way to do “something” and LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT and show support, be in the loop… tell people who want to be part of this mitzvah to start by texting the word JACOB to number 21800
why is there no Rubashkin/ pollard / Japan boys outcry? why is it so quiet this is the most real pidon shivuim where are all the rabonim?
The article does not mention it, but I’ve read elsewhere that the Bolivian government, which is communist, confiscated all of Ostreicher’s land. He was ripped off by his representative in Bolivia who was romantically involved with a major drug smuggler, and Ostreicher was left holding the can. He is being held in a third-world prison that is known to be very dangerous. Hashem yerachem.
