A Durham, N.C. native, the 55 year-old Lynch is a graduate of both Harvard University and Harvard Law School and along with her Brooklyn-based duties, which most recently included the indictment of U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm of Staten Island on tax evasion charges, Lynch has over the past four years served on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s 20-member advisory committee, where she was appointed chairwoman by Holder in 2013.
Lynch also has the distinction of being the only person two hold the Eastern District of New York’s U.S. Attorney position twice, serving under both the Clinton and Obama administrations.
Former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District Alan Vinegrad said Lynch is “A low-key, measured kind of personality. She’s really smart, has a winning personality and she’s very charming. But she can be very tough when she needs to be, especially in the courtroom.”
