The first groups marching were large organizations such as Israel Electronic Corporation, El-Al, military and police platoons, and several NGO. Following them was the ICEJ (International Christian Embassy Jerusalem) Christian pilgrims, which was the largest delegation and was consisted of participants from more than 90 nations.
The pilgrims, attending the Feast of Tabernacles celebration, were waving flags, chanting “we love Israel,” calling “shalom”, and were holding signs expressing their support in the State of Israel. Some groups were playing the trumpet, shofar and drums, and presenting traditional dances. Some were handing out flags and candy to local children.
ICEJ stressed in a statement that this year’s Feast gathering has centered on the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War, and after the march, they held a special tribute to the IDF soldiers who liberated the Old City of Jerusalem in June 1967 in the capital’s Pais Arena.
Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat said that he is excited to hold this event, year after year.
“The Jerusalem March is tradition for over 60 years, and as time goes it is ever more exciting,” Barkat said.
“In the year that we celebrate the reunification of the city, it is even more exciting. Jerusalem is hosting this holiday hundreds of thousands of visitors and tourists who enjoys the magic of the city, its gorges site and our unique attractions,” he added.
