Jerusalem – Maverick MK Haim Amsallem (Shas) accused the hareidi leadership of repressing and misrepresenting the hareidi masses, most of whom want to join the IDF and earn a living like the rest of Israel’s citizens.

The hareidi leadership – which he described as being composed equally of political figures and journalists – restricts the hareidi public “so that it does not open its ears and eyes,” he explained – for then it will want to “leave the shell in which it has been tied up.”
“This hareidi public wants to earn a living respectably,” he said.” And it knows it is being fooled when it is told that going out to work is ‘poison’… and they are tired of being told that they are parasites and do not serve, but they are in a trap.”
MK Amsallem said that United Torah Judaism MK Moshe Gafni was himself a “Sikrik” – as a violent extremist group within the hareidi world is known – because the newspaper that reflects UTJ’s opinions, Yated Ne’eman, is a violent one. MK Amsallem was unhappy with MK Gafni’s statement that he would stop encouraging hareidim to enlist in the IDF.
The hareidi public is gentle and moderate, he said, but the press latches onto stories about the ultra-extremist groups in the hareidi world that are like “wild wolves,” he said.
It is happening.
anyone who expresses an opinion the next guy doesn’t agree with, he’ll be labled a “sikrik”. That how it goes, thats how all charedin living in bet shemesh were labled sikrikim. In a moment you will have thousands of sikrikim. no longer a small group.
R’ Amsallem is a great and brave man. Klal Yisrael needs him.
very well said The hareidi leadership – which he described as being composed equally of political figures and journalists – restricts the hareidi public “so that it does not open its ears and eyes,” he explained – for then it will want to “leave the shell in which it has been tied up they don’t trust their view and up bringing so they must use the scare tactic if you don’t do it our way you will never get married your kids wont have schools no body going to do business with you etc……… very sad but very thru
Since the article notes that Amsalem has a seat in the Shas party, it should be noted that Rav Ovadia Yosef expelled Amsalem from Shas.
Serving in the IDF means taking orders from Barak who sends marines without weapons jumping onto a ship of armed terrorists. It means taking orders from shabbas desecrators and being forced to be mechallel shabbas or be punished.
It is possible to serve the Jewish people without serving in the IDF.
The charedim have survived thousands of years without the IDF, but the IDF couldn’t exist without the charedim. There isn’t a single Jew that can’t trace his lineage back to charedim. Without our charedi forefathers, there would not be a Jewish people – hence no IDF.

“I was awoken at two in the morning by the sounds of barking dogs and knocks on the door,” recalled Ziva Davis, who lived in the outpost Mitzpe Avichai along with her husband and their three children. “I asked ‘who’s there?’ as they were breaking into the house. They gave us a few minutes to get organized. Our neighbors were ordered to leave their homes while they were still i…n their pajamas. They kept yelling ‘get out, get out,'” she said, adding that her property was damaged during the evacuation.
“It’s a horrible experience; I felt as though my soul was being invaded,” Davis said. “You see a well-oiled system of robots – the defense minister’s mercenaries – and you wonder what has become of our country. People take pity on migrants but not on Jews.”
Watch out, Rabbi Amsallem. They’ll be lining up to spit on your kids next.
Was Margi “blurred out” for some reason or is this a new form of censorship like photo-shopping Hillary Clinton out of the white house photos last year
What a stupid and thoughtless thing to say. It adds absolutely nothing to the discussion and does nothing to solve the overall problem.
Grand Rabbi reb Yoelish z”l, was right.
why blur out Amselam’s picture? Was he wearing something revealing or just revealing the split in the charedi public’s opinion?
Avreich,
It has been reported lately, the IDF started a PR unit, following social websites, and posting there comments.
Is it rude that I assume that you belong to the PR unit?
I don’t know any Chareidy IDF soldier currently enrolled in the IDF, hence I cannot verify either side.
However, I’ve met many Israelis (here in the states) that have served, all they talk about those days – when they were young and stupid, – is raving and boasting how many gal’s they have sthupt!
I cannot verify it by names and ranks, but every American Israeli will eagerly substantiate this side of the IDF.
