US Joint Chief Of Staff : IDF Lebanese Offensive Risks Iranian Response Jeopardizing Entire Region

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Charles Brown, warned Sunday that if Israel initiated a ground offensive in Lebanon, it risked an Iranian intervention on behalf of Hezbollah which could plunge the region into a wider war and jeopardize US forces in the Middle East.

Brown stressed that Iran would give more backing to the Shiite Hezbollah than it did to the Sunni Hamas terrorists, “particularly if they felt that Hezbollah was being significantly threatened.”

Israeli officials have threatened a military offensive in Lebanon if there is no diplomatic solution that would remove Hezbollah from its northern border.

Last week, the IDF said it had “approved and validated” plans for a ground maneuver in Lebanon, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Sunday that ″We can fight on several fronts and we are prepared to do that.”

The Israeli threats were a response to an aggressive speech from Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah  last week in which he threatened “war without restraints” with Israel if it attacked Lebanon first.

U.S. officials have been trying to broker negotiations to the conflict, with White House advisor Amos Hochstein meeting officials in Lebanon and Israel last week. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is in Washington where he is expected to discuss the conflict with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other senior U.S. officials.

Brown also said the U.S. will not be able to assist Israel at the same level that it has helped the IDF fight Hamas, due to the type of weaponry that Hezbollah uses. According to the Associated Press, Brown told reporters that the U.S. has told a spectrum of Israeli officials “to think about the second order of effect of any type of operation into Lebanon, and how that might play out and how it impacts not just the region, but how it impacts our forces in these regions as well.”

On Sunday, Iranian Chief of Staff Brigadier-General Kioumars Heydari discussed the potential for a widespread war with the “Resistance Front”.

He reaffirmed the strong capabilities of the Resistance Front. “Should the Zionist regime launch an attack on Lebanon and initiate a broad conflict with Hezbollah, the Axis of Resistance will not remain passive. A harsh and decisive response will be delivered to counter the Zionists’ malice,” he declared.

The entire region is already jeopardized because of Obama. Stop blaming problems that the Democrats caused on Israel.

Isn’t it interesting that when Hezballah attacks Israel, that is “normal”.But when Israel responds, or acts prevent further attack, it is “escalation” and any wider war is then due to Israel’s action?

US decided to go with Iran as hegemon in the ME. Israel is in the way. Why? This is the only way she can control the oil supply there. She has lost every war post-WW2 and the side that sustained the most deaths then were the Soviets. 1979 “peace” treaty and all subsequent such agreements have been designed to force Israel to cede land which is concrete for abstract illusions of peace thus weakening her.
