Jerusalem, Israel – As was reported here on VOS IZ NEIAS, Israel's chief rabbi ruled last week that Jews must not wear fur skinned from live animals.
"All Jews are obliged to prevent the horrible phenomenon of cruelty to animals and be a 'light onto nations' by refusing to use products that originate from acts which cause such suffering," Rabbi Yona Metzger said.

Now PETA has sent a letter to Rabbi Metzger, thanking him for the landmark Halachic ruling, prohibiting Jews from wearing fur from animals who have been skinned alive.
"Your decision to prohibit Jews from wearing fur will spare countless animals from miserable lives and painful deaths," writes PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "We hope your compassionate example will inspire many other people of faith to have mercy on animals by avoiding fur and other cruelly obtained products.".
oh yes, and the shtreimlech and beaver hitten are made of cotton candy.
I guess Metzger is off to some fancy PETA dinner in midtown Manhattan hotel to be honored as the Rabbi of the Year.
THis metzger can involve himself in far more important things affecting klal yisroel today than toite chayos.
How many people in Israel follow thses Chief Rabbis that exist in the country. The yeshivish go after R Elyashuv and Shteinman and Kanievsky. Chassidish go after their own. Who is left for these govt. funded Chief Rabbis? Unless someone can explain this to me, It sounds like a waste of govt. money.
It happens to be that the videos of the fur bewing removed are gruesome. With that said, the only truth is that anything or anyone that PETA gives a hechsher shtempel to should be looked at carefully for lies and inaccuracies.
I am protesting by not eating anything with PITA for a month!
Yup, PETA will take things out of context. It’s what they do best.
They are taking the Rav’s words out of context. He did not prohibit the wearing of fur but the fur from animals that are skinned alive.
