Pomona, NY – Mayor Herbert Marshall was defeated by his deputy, Nicholas Sanderson, in a contest defined by land-use concerns sparked by plans for a rabbinical college.

"I'm delighted that village residents saw that we were very prepared for the issue that is facing the village," Sanderson said. "This is a passionate party, and we can work together so diligently to prepare ourselves and be ready for the fight for Pomona."
Marshall's running mate, Trustee Alan Lamer, also was ousted, with Sanderson allies Rita Louie and Brett Yagel winning the six-way race for two trustee seats.
Voter Charlotte E. Jones, 78, who chose Sanderson's slate. "I think we need a change," Jones said after voting. "Changing people sometime is healthy."
Jones' daughter, Charlotte L. Jones, 38, also said, "this is supposed to be a rustic community. But they are taking all the rusticness out by building and building and building," the younger Jones said. [Journal News]
