Judge O'Reilly ruled that Michael Seifert, 83, lied when he immigrated to Canada in 1951 by claiming he had been born in Estonia and hiding the fact that he been a prison guard at Italy's Bolzano prison camp during World War Two, because he knew that would make him ineligible.
Canadian courts, in a separate proceeding, have already ruled that Seifert, 83, can be extradited to Italy because of a conviction in absentia by an Italian court. Seifert has acknowledged serving at the camp but has denied involvement in torture or murder. [Reuters]
