Several hundred citations have been issued since the disturbances began on Jan. 27, community members said, although their estimates varied widely, and no exact count was available on Monday either through the state police or the Monroe Town Court, where the cases will be heard.

Maj. Edward Raso, commander of State Police Troop F, said police have heightened their presence in the village since the dispute began and may have written more tickets than usual simply because more troopers are stationed there, doing their jobs.

“We write tickets for people who violate the law,” Raso said.

But incensed leaders of the Hasidic community accuse police of waging a discriminatory ticket blitz. Mayor Abraham Wieder has appealed to State Police Superintendent Harry Corbitt and urged both Monroe judges to delay acting on the summonses until he can meet with them.

The recent clashes stem from a wedding held at a new reception hall in the basement of B’nai Yoel, a school run by dissident community members just outside the village in the Town of Woodbury.

I don’t like a ticket, but if it comes with the price of security to protect it should not be violence in KJ, I think its worth…

    A simple solution

The simple solution is this: let the good people of Kiryas Yoel quit holding disturbances. It’s a chillul HaShem anyway. Let them get out of the streets and take their differences to a neutral Bais Din. Of course that’s not as much fun, but at least it doesn’t attract the police.

The Satmar Rebbe must be crying in Shomayim to see the children of his Hassidim acting this way.

Woo-hoo. Mayor-for-life Wieder is upset about the ticket blitz. Where were you when yoy allied henchmen rioted on the streets like crazed animals? Do you know how much overtime KJ has cost the state in recent weeks? Why should the whole county and state have to cover the expense of refereeing your internal holy war? It only makes sense to extract a few extra dollars from the perps.

Thank u mr.mayor for going out and helping and protecting the people from our village everybody knows by now that this tickets has nothing to do with keeping the peace its just one sergeant from the ny state Police that is in a battle with our village leaders.

Wieder (aka Reb Avraham) is a big part of the problem. He does nothing to stop the constant feuding and bickering among his own chassidus, he gets no respect from the rabbonim who themselves seem to provoke most of the fighting and then he whines about the police crackdown. I hope the police squeeze these yidden until they learn to behave themselves as normal people.

How can they protect while they are. busy issuing tickets? The police have their base around 2/10 of a mile near KJ and they can respond faster from their base than while being busy issuing a ticket!
The only reason is for the tickets are as recorded on uTube that Joe Waldman asked the police to terrorize the village!!!

A situation was created where police presence was needed. As long as the police are there, they are going to ticket if they see violations. It’s as simple as that. It has nothing to do with “terrorizing” anyone or anti-semitism. The full article has a man complaining that he got ticketed three times in one week for not having an up-to-date
inspection sticker. Well, duh …. you get ticketed for not having an inspection and the first thing any reasonable person would do is go straight to the mechanic and get the car inspected. I got stopped once for having an expired sticker and I immediately went to get one — I didn’t go home first, I didn’t continue on my way to where I was going. If it had been after hours with no open garage, I would have asked the officer for advice – i.e. “Officer – I’m so sorry, I simply forgot. Can I avoid getting another ticket if I drive straight home and go the garage first thing in the morning, will that be ok sir?”

I know of someone that got stopped by a police officer and he asked why he got stopped and he answered by showing him on his scullcap and payos!!

How about just not breaking the law and then there would be no tickets and no issue at all. What a novel concept.

What the SP are doing in KJ is called entrapment.
Plenty of people have surveilance camera proof that they ‘did’ stop at Stop signs but got pulled over anyway. Very many of these tickets will be thrown out in court. Most of them have no validity. Like someone I know who got a ticket for parking in a no parking zone when actually, the car was running and he was in the drivers seat, AND there is a no parking sign on the ‘other’ side of the street. He was smarter than trying to argue with the officer, but he has proof that will render the ticket as ‘waste of SP time.

Most of the tickets are due to parking on the street overnight which prevents the plows from doing a good job. Signs clearly state no parking from Nov-March over night. Tomorrow will be a big snow storm and I hope all of you will pull your cars into driveways to make it safer for ME to drive on a plowed road! I’m fed up with my neighbors who refuse to follow the simple NYS laws.
