A winter weather advisory is in effect through much of the region, with a mix of snow, sleet and rain that started to fall around 10 p.m. The advisory is in effect until about 1 p.m., with areas in and around the city expected to see a total of about 1 to 4 inches.
Residents should be wary despite the meager accumulation, however. The snow changed to freezing rain early this morning, washing away some of the soft snow cover and transforming into sheets of ice that made it difficult to even walk on side streets.
