New York – Bone-chilling cold is prompting some schools around the area to delay openings and some to cancel classes all together as organizers cancel winter festivals and meteorologists warn residents in some parts of New York to stay inside as a blast of arctic weather takes aim at the Northeast.

Temperatures plummeted to the low teens overnight around the tri-state, hovering around 20 degrees during the day. Monday will be even colder, with lows around 8 degrees and highs of only 17.

The culprit is a Canadian clipper, a cold air mass moving into the United States from the province of Alberta, Pukajlo said.

Residents should wear several layers of warm clothing and stay inside if possible, Conte said.

Temperatures will rise beginning Tuesday, but an influx of more humid air from the south will likely bring snowstorms around Wednesday, he said.

New York City has been careful to fully prepare for winter weather after the day-after-Christmas blizzard that paralyzed large swathes of the metropolis and sparked several investigations.

I went walking last night. I was well bundled up, so I was okay, but my tea that I was holding, spilled on the corner of my house. When I got home, I wanted to wipe it off, and it was ice!!!!!! That’s when I noticed how cold it was!!!!!!!!!

No matter how cold it is now, its nothing compared to how cold it was “in der alter heim”. My great uncle would tell me how snow would still be on the ground in May in his part of Romania.
