Simon & Schuster’s Howard Books division announced Thursday that “Gift of Rest” will come out in August. Co-written by David Klinghoffer, the book is a reflection on Lieberman’s observance of the Jewish Sabbath, a day of rest.
The 68-year-old Lieberman, a longtime Connecticut Democrat re-elected as an independent in 2006, recently announced he would not run in 2012. As Al Gore’s running mate in 2000, he narrowly missed becoming the first Jewish vice-president.
Whoopidoo! He’s going to profit over having observed Shabbos.
will buy!
Looking 4wrd to read it!
Who Cares; this person was the deciding vote on dont ask dont tell, what orthodox jew would vote for open homosexuality
Will he also write what is the heter of voting and speaking into a mike on shobbes?
Should be a quick read. Imagine, all he has to say is he walked to the Senate & somehow voted on everything that he considered Pikuach Nefesh. Nebach!!
He has no credibility at all to write about shabbes after his public chillul shabbes.
I wouldn’t consider Joe Lieberman as the paradigm of shabbos observance. There is much to admire about him, but his insistence on attending votes on shabbos are hardly worthy of praise.
You all miss the point. Here is a great way to spread to beauty of shabbos to thousands of Yidden that have not had the chance to experience and appreciate it. Wow, I am jealous of the zechus of being able to spread Torah is such a profound and widespread way.
All those ripping Lieberman, have you learned all the hilchos shabbos. Because If you didn’t you were over chilul shabbos many time n your life according to the mishna Berurah. I highly doubt Lieberman was ever oiver Shabboes bemaizid. But he has one advantage over many of those who degrade him he made himself more frum, closer to Hashem and led a constructive life.
placing a vote on shabbas, though clearly not desirable, is not an averra. it is a social obligation at some capacity. Those who serve in office have a duty. Just like a physician. There are situations where by you can not keep your life as organized as you would if you were not in office. Its better that we serve our nation if need be than to refrain from civic duty just becuase we may need to vote. Clearly he need not lift a pen or push a button. That can be done by another person.
it is unclear whether he actually did any melacha when he voted for don’task don’t tell repeal. he walked there and raised his hand. maybe it’s not in the ‘spirit’ of shabbas but that is not really halacha (at least not so cut and dry)/ please don’t be so quick to judge, you dont’ know all the facts.
1) Please note that Senator Lieberman does NOT live in Brooklyn. He has stood up for shabbos publicly in places where people have never even heard of Shabbos.
2) He may not be observing shabbos like the Chazon Ish, however, hakol lfi madregaso.
3) He was mechanech his family to be shomer shabos, kedas v’kadin. And his children are – they are bnai and bnos torah.
4) Don’t use the Charaidi standard of being shomer shabos, for an American born man who grew up in a city without great chinuch almost 70 years ago!
