The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Thursday it would begin an ad campaign attacking Republican candidate Bob Turner in the 9th Congressional District. The seat was vacated in June, when Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned in a sexting scandal.
Democrat David Weprin was expected to win easily. But polls show a close contest ahead of Tuesday’s special election.
The committee says it’s spending about half a million dollars on the ads. They won’t run on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Many voters in the New York City district say they disapprove of President Barack Obama’s economic policies. Turner has pledged to change course if elected.
what a way to waste half a million dollars so quick – why not just give it to poor families – ‘cuz it ain’t gonna work – everyone’s VOTING REPUBLICAN from now until NOV 2012 – we need to take back America bit by bit
The national Dems are running scared. Even if they lose this seat, don’t look for any policy changes. They lost Ted Kennedy’s seat on the basis of opposition to Obamacare and yet that was still pushed through.
They had the greatestoss of Congressional seats in decades in 2010 and still their proposed legislation remains unchanged.
Only voting them out of office will cause a change in policy.
Obama wanted weiner out, now he’ll have a republican replace him. Serves him well.
Wow, who would have thought that Anthony Weiner’s seat would even have a chance of going to anyone other than a Democrat. Sure, there are specific local issues like Weprin’s vote for gay marriage and Obama’s horrendous Israel policy, but even with all that it still was safely Democratic.
It also appears that this was Schumer’s seat before he moved to the Senate. Looks like there is some hope for real CHANGE in 2012.
