Lakewood Police Chief Robert Lawson tells the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/ve2660) that the two teens — ages 15 and 17 — were walking in the Ocean County community early Thursday when a car approached them. Five people inside the vehicle — identified only as three male adults and two juvenile boys — then allegedly threw several eggs at the teens before driving away.
A borough police officer soon spotted and stopped the vehicle a few blocks away. Lawson says the driver admitted they were responsible for throwing the eggs.
They were issued summonses and released.
A summons and released? Not a hate crime? If the kids who were hit with eggs were black or Spanish and not Jewish, there would be uproar and arrests and rallies and news reports all over.
Why were they only issued summonses? They should have been jailed and brought to court. There, it would be up to a judge to grant bail.
Why were they only issued summonses instead of being locked up. I’m sure that if the victim would have been a person of color they would have been held.
Better move to Israel, even Lakewood is dangerous.
In London, eggs were thrown at yidden from a car on Shabbos on Golders Green Rd. I think the throwers were caught.
Bias and harrassmant? Summons??
Why not assault and an arrest?
Yeah, if this happened in Israel and some Haredim threw eggs at a women and called her derogatory names, for sure they would be in jail!
Oh wait, they totally wouldn’t.
I hope the eggs were glatt kosher and bishul yisroel with a heimeshe hechsher.
To Sherry, the Noahide- #7 - I find your comments disturbing. How do you know what the NYCPD would do or wouldn’t do, pertaining to an arrest, since you live in the Pacific Northwest, and not in NYC?
Last summer, while visiting family in Flatbush, I made the mistake of walking back (to the home that I was visiting) on Nostrand Avenue, between Avenue K and Avenue L. There were about two dozen rowdy African-American pre-teens and teenagers flowing water balloons at each other. When they spoted me and the person I was with, they deliberately took aim at us. Do you think that it is pleasant to have a water filled balloon spray water, all over a brand new suit, and make it unfit to war, until it is cleaned? We were both wearing yarmulkas, so there is no doubt that we were targeted because we were white and Jewish! If the reverse were true, the “people of color” would be screaming that they were targeted because they were Black!
