Israel National News (http://bit.ly/1qQP2KG) reports Education Minister Shai Piron (Yesh Atid) announced Rabbanit Adina Bar-Shalom – Hareidi College founder and the daughter of former Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef – was a recipient.
The prize committee commended Bar-Shalom for her efforts to integrate the hareidi lifestyle in the social and educational realms and for her cultural contribution.
The other recipient of the prize was Avi Naor, a cofounder of the “Or Yarok” (road safety) organization and the technology company Amdocs.
I’m surprised that when Rav Weiss announced he would grant “Rabbanit” certification from his yeshiva in New York, there was a cry of gevalt from many Yeshivish types but apparently it was OK for the daughter of the gadol hador, Rav Ovadia, Z’tl to have a daughter who was a Rabbanit. What hypocrisy.
Rabbanit is different than Rabbah, which is different than Yoetzet Halacha.
If anything should get you mad is Mrs Yosef’s talk of running for public office (president-if I recall). The Chareidi position is that you don’t appoint or elect women to positions of authority. Yet not a word from Shas or Degel HaTorah.
Tab bandit is simply how you say Rebbezin in Hebrew, it doesn’t mean she’s been ordained, just that her husband is a rabbi.
