The 10-year study shows the death rate dropped by 11.1 percent, life spans expanded to 81.1 years – longer than the national average of 78.8 years – premature deaths dropped by 16 percent and deaths from HIV/AIDS dropped 63 percent reports the New York Post (http://bit.ly/1zTSkEs).

Bloomberg, who famously tried to ban the sales of oversized sodas in 2012, successfully:

    • Banned smoking in public places in 2002
    • Forbade trans fats in restaurants in 2006
    • Campaigned to lower sodium in 2008
    • Implemented a report-card grading system for restaurants in 2010
    • Pushed for tighter regulations of tanning salons in 2013
    • Introduced branded NYC condoms in 2006, which were handed out across the city for free
    • Implemented posting calorie counts on menus in 2007

Racial gaps in death rates also decreased. One reason why – the homicide rate fell 43 percent over the 10 years, and the suicide rate is now higher than the homicide rate.

The top three causes of deaths for New Yorkers in 2013 were heart disease, cancer and flu/pneumonia.

Never thought I would say this but I miss the days when he was our Mayor. Crime in the city is on the rise and where is our Mayor?
