UMAN, UKRAINE (VINnews) — In an attempt to persuade the Ukrainian authorities that all steps are being taken to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus during the coming Rosh Hashana gathering in Uman, the Breslav chasidim released a clip showing the strict precautions being taken by worshipers in Uman. The clip shows a chasid being checked for high temperature, donning a mask and rubbing alcohol gel before he enters the vicinity of the tomb of Rabbi Nachman at Uman.

Chasidim also spoke with the Ukrainian government directly and the chairman of the National Secretariat of Breslav Chassidim, Nahman Benshaya, met with Ukrainian officials after he was officially invited by the Kiev government. The Ukrainian president set up a committee including the local coronavirus project manager and police chief to see how the gathering could take place this year.

At the same time, Breslav chasidim demonstrated outside the Givatayim residence of the coronavirus project manager, Prof. Roni Gamzu. The chasidim blame Gamzu for the Ukrainan government’s negative response to their requests to go to Uman, citing his letter to the Ukrainian president in which he warned of massive infection if the gathering at Uman took place this year.
