JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Danielle Wolfson was an anonymous Israeli lawyer until last week, when she became the first Israeli woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The 43-year-old Wolfson’s achievement is even more remarkable since just 10 years ago after a skiing accident left her badly injured, doctors told her that she might not even walk again.

Chezi Shaked, an Israeli mountain climber close to Wolfson told Israeli radio that he is following Wolfson’s climb closely and added that “when possible I am in touch with Danielle at all times. At present we are in touch with the director of the base camp under Everest but we know that yesterday they reached the summit at a relatively early hour because they left in the early hours of the night.”
The final ascent of 850 meters to the summit takes 12 hours due to the difficult terrain and air conditions but Shaked said that at present his attention is on Wolfson’s descent from the mountain because the descent is more dangerous than the ascent.
