The door to a home is one of the first impressions your guests notice. It’s what guests will see upon the moment they walk up to your front steps, what your mail person will see as they drop off your packages every day, and what you’ll come to know as a welcome sign that your long, busy day has come to an end. On top of that, your door represents security and the knowledge that you and your loved ones have a safe place to live and grow.

But how do you combine the highest technological home security functions without compromising your architectural style? Easy. All you need is a smart lock. Smart locks do a variety of things normal door locks can’t, all while looking great with a sleek, modern design finish. Read on to discover all the wonderful features that come with upgrading your home with a smart lock.

A Lock to Match Your Look

First things first, your entryway is an experience, and you want to make sure your door hardware matches your style. Luckily, smart locks combine technological innovation with style: the auxiliary deadbolt within the lock contains a miniaturized battery for power and software components, while the external lock and level come in a variety of finishes to suit your home design choices.

Simple Installation

Installing a smart lock can also be a simple process that will elevate your home in minutes. All you need for most installations is a screwdriver, so no need to call for a handyman. Use the screwdriver to remove your existing lock and deadbolt, and replace them with your new smart lock. It’ll probably be the quickest (and best) home improvement project you’ve ever taken on!

Easily Access Your Lock with an App

In order to use your smart lock, you’ll likely need to download an app that corresponds to it. Using the app, you’ll set up an account to manage your lock (or locks, back doors, and gates are important too!) and pair your phone with it via Bluetooth. Once paired, your lock will make a connection with your phone whenever you’re in range to operate the lock. The range is determined by geofencing software within the deadbolt that sets a boundary within which the lock can be accessed. Home boundaries are typically set to a small range, about ⅛ of a mile in radius around your home. This ensures that no one else will be able to use your lock’s remote features unless you’ve given them access.

Your family and friends can utilize keyless entry through the app as well. Once they’ve downloaded it, you can add them as either admins or guests that have access to your home. Admins are able to control more keyless entry features, like changing access settings, adding guests, and getting system notifications. When you create a guest access pass, you can specify what day and time you want to allow; or, if you have a recurring guest, like a dog walker or gardener, you can set their access as recurring.

Additionally, if you’re throwing a party, you can create a pass through the app to send out with your invites. Just create a digital key that specifies the time and date you’re allowing keyless entry, and send it to your guests so they can enter using their phones as well.

Make Life a Keyless Breeze

On top of looking good, and providing a number of helpful technological functions, smart locks do away with the hassle of keys. Gone are the days of worrying about leaving your keys at home: just have the app ready on your phone, and you’re set. In addition to the app features, some keyless locks include touch to lock and unlock features: meaning you can enter your home with just the tap of a finger. Additionally, if you have family members in your life who are too young to use a smartphone, you can give them a programmable keycard that corresponds with your home’s smart entry system. If the card is misplaced, you can easily deactivate access to it, so you don’t have to worry about needing an entirely new lock system. Some smart locks do come with a set of keys for manual entry and egress to have on hand whenever needed. It’s safe to say, smart looks do it all when it comes to style and security.

When upgrading your home with the latest technological features, you don’t have to compromise style: an easy way to keep your home safe while looking stunning is by incorporating a smart lock. Easily replace your existing lock with a few quick turns of a screwdriver, insert the auxiliary deadbolt and lock pieces into its place, pair your lock with your phone using Bluetooth or WiFi and control your entryway with a simple touch of a button.
