FOREST HILLS (VINnews) Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has been using her security detail to shuttle her kids to school and move into her new home.

According to the NY Post, Katz was spotted wearing her DA’s badge on her hip early last week as she carried four boxes to a car parked outside the Forest Hills house where she has been living temporarily.
She then climbed into the official NYC vehicle assigned to her and was driven by plainclothes NYPD cops to her newly purchased home.
In total, Katz and her detail made four trips between her old and new homes last Tuesday morning.
Then on Friday, members of Katz’s security detail carried various items to her official car from one of the homes, while picking her up along with her two kids. One cop made three back-and-forth trips, and the other made two, carrying multiple large black plastic bags.
In addition, the Post quoted sources saying that members of her security detail transported flat-screen TVs, groceries and dry cleaning for her, and loaded her sons’ bicycles and sports gear into an official SUV, before driving the family away.
Katz also regularly had her guards drive her kids to school (she came along as well), after which she returned home, and left for work around 10 a.m.
City ethics rules prohibit officials like Katz “from using City resources for any personal, non-City purpose.”
Ms. Katz, who resides in Forest Hills, is closely connected with the Queens orthodox Jewish community. As Queens Borough President, she developed connections with many community leaders, who later supported her in her bid for DA against a socialist candidate backed by AOC.

One may argue that perhaps a private moving company should have been hired to move the furniture. But in terms of driving the children to school, the claim is made that her job is “24/7” and policy calls for the security detail to accompany the DA not only during official activities but also during her normal family routine as well (for the obvious reason that she is as much in danger at that time as at any other time).
