JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Palestinian sources told Israel’s channel 14 that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken promised PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas in May to declare the Lehava and La Familia organizations as terror groups in the US.

Blinken claimed at the time that the Israeli government was also planning to declare the two groups as terror groups. Blinken’s declaration came in the wake of the Jerusalem Day flag march in which right-wing elements chanted racist slogans. Videos from Damascus Gate showed groups of participants in the march chanting anti-Arab slogans including “Shuafat is on fire,” “Death to Arabs,” “Muhammad is dead” and “The village is burning.” Violent clashes between Jews and Arabs also broke out in multiple locations around east Jerusalem.
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said at the time that “I believe that the time has come to consider defining organizations such as La Familia and Lehava as terrorist organizations, and I know that the issue is at the doorstep of the defense establishment and trust that the heads of the organizations will do the examination in the cleanest and best way.”
Prime Minister Bennett also promised to “bring to justice” those who rioted, while foreign minister Lapid said that they were “miserable bullies, this is not what we waited for for 3000 years.” He added that “Lehava and La Famila are not worthy of carrying the Israeli flag, they are a disgrace which harms the joy of the people of Israel on Jerusalem Day.”
Lehava is headed by Bentzi Gopstein, a righ-wing activist who was indicted for incitement to violence in 2019 over comments he made from 2012 to 2017. The group seeks to prevent personal relationships between Jews and non-Jews and also loudly opposes LGBTQ people.
La Familia is a far-right group that supports the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club, although the club has distanced itself from the group, which incites against Arabs at soccer matches and has prevented the club from purchasing Arab players.
So he’s promised a terrorist leader who pays murderers’ families , who refuses to talk peace but incites violence , to ban Jewish groups.
