CHICAGO (Yaakov M / VINnews) — While the nation mourned the victims of the Highland Park shooting, residents on Chicago’s dangerous south side, just an hour away, were gunned down in even higher numbers.

Yet the same politicians and media who (rightfully) devoted endless attention to the Highland Park attack in suburban Chicago, ignored the many blacks who were killed and injured during the same weekend.
Following the Highland Park mass shooting, multiple high-profile Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Illinois Governor Pritzker and Senator Tammy Duckworth visited the community.
Yet these leftists–one of whom is black–who claim to care about the plight of minorities, ignored the black communities just a few miles away.
Over the July 4th weekend, at least eight people were fatally shot and 68 injured by gun violence in downtown Chicago. Yet nobody on the left seems to care.
We have seen this double standard repeatedly. Blacks and other minorities in Democrat-controlled cities, including many children, are tragically gunned down in high numbers.
While many more thousands are killed than the victims of mass shootings, the media and Democrats ignore them.

Community leaders in Chicago’s dangerous South and West sides are outraged. They say they aren’t comparing which tragedy is worse and stand in solidarity with the Highland Park community, but would like the same compassion and urgency to resolve the problem.
They also say that in their community, there’s almost an expectation and acceptance of gun violence with little attention or resources paid to tackle it.
In 2021, Chicago experienced one of its deadliest years in the last quarter-century with almost 800 homicides.
One community leader says there’s a constant fear among “Black and Brown youth” that they’ll be the next victim of gun violence. He recalls being at a playground with a group of kids last summer when gunshots broke out, and all the kids immediately ducked to the ground.
“In any other neighborhood, kids would have probably took off running, but these kids all hit the ground,” he says. “What a sad commentary that these kids know, ‘OK, somebody’s shooting, hit the ground.'”
It appears that although Democrats claim to care about “gun violence” victims, if it does not fit their narrative or help advance their agenda, they ignore it.
Which means they don’t care about gun violence.
They care about their anti-gun agenda, yet are perfectly fine allowing vicious criminals to roam free in black neighborhoods which are riddled with daily shootings.
I have enough admit that there is a distinction. The severity of a shooting by an innocent parade is very different than Chicago gang wars. There is something much scarier about innocent people at a parade in a one time severe shooting by an innocent parade with kids vs crime ridden hoods and gang wars
