National Public Radio, funded by American taxpayers, deleted the tweet which called Japan’s former Prime Minister “a divisive arch-conservative”, after intense backlash over their egregious choice of wording.
The tweet said: “Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, a divisive arch-conservative and one of his nation’s most powerful and influential figures, has died after being shot during a campaign speech Friday”.
On Friday morning, the hashtag #DefundNPR was trending on Twitter.
Some conservative commentators said that the tweet, in addition to the first paragraph in an article, suggested that Shinzo’s conservative politics brought about his death, and perhaps offered some justification.
“It wasn’t just the tweet that was smearing Shinzo Abe that NPR put out,” said journalist Curtis Houck in a tweet. “The lead paragraph of the article about his assassination is nearly identical, suggesting he had it coming.”

Steven Yates, a foreign policy expert, wrote: “Absolutely shameful smear of a positively transformational leader and one of America’s best friends and allies. Such a long-tenured PM certainly united more than he divided. He was a reformer and defender of democratic Japan, and of the free world.”
Today's reminder that NPR is publicly-subsidized, divisive, leftist trash. #DefundNPR https://t.co/Gby8bNkZez

I'm a long time NPR listener – can't listen for 5 minutes anymore without some Marxist infused instersectional framework take on anything and everything. Even the most straightforward apolitical story is shown through the lens of a 2nd tier college gender studies TA.

Media and dems Collude for evil.
Yaakov M erroneously writes that “National Public Radio, funded by American taxpayers”. NPR is primarily paid for by listener donations, corporation grants and bequests. See the NPR website. If memory serves me correctly, the limited funding NPR originally got from the federal government (under 10%) was reduced to the current less than 1% during the tenure of Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House.
For the most part, journos are horrible, terrible, wicked people.
NPR is National Propaganda Radio – and the Propaganda is that of extreme left woke.
Unfortunate, since supported by public funds from US government.
Every country has its own public radio that they fund. But we have the distinction of have one that disses the hand that feeds it.
As it happens, NPR is one of the most professional and reliable -and apolitical – news organizations operating today. Outfits like Fox and Newsmax and the failing OAN are just propaganda mills for the far right. As for taxpayer funding, only a very small percentage of its funding comes from the government, and it’s money well invested.
Maybe we can defund NPR and then have only state funded Fox, just like in Russia.
Well, he was an ultra-nationalist.
