JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In a shocking example of callous disregard for animals, the mayor of Hevron, Taisir Abu-Sneine, announced in a radio interview that anyone who would bring him a dead stray dog would receive 20 NIS (A significant sum in the Palestinian Authority where a day’s wages average 60-100 NIS). The offer was enthusiastically taken up by Palestinians in the city, who gleefully beat, shot and hanged dogs in the city and in surrounding areas.

When asked by horrified Israeli journalists if this was his intention, Abu Sneine played down his words calling them “humor” and stating that he intended to annoy animal rights organizations and urge authorities to treat the dangerous phenomenon of stray dogs.

Want to make the world hate these terrorists? Don’t mention a peep about anti-semitism. Just release a statement to PETA about these poor dogs.

Someone shot a terrorist and turned him in to the mayor for the bounty. Said, oh you meant REAL dogs!?

My son lived in Gush Katif. His dog was attacked by a mob of strays, and died horribly (my son was devastated). I have no problem with eliminating strays.

I don’t know the Arab mayor’s intentions, but it is a fact that stray hungry dogs will form a pack that is extremely dangerous to people. About 40 years ago there were such feral dogs in packs in Brooklyn. A man who worked for the Mir Yeshiva was attacked and mauled by the dogs walking near Ocean Parkway. He told me the only way he was saved was while on the ground he kicked at one of the dogs that turned and started a frenzied fight with another dog. Then all of the dogs joined that fray and the man got up from the ground and ran.
