JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Social media users on Reddit recently gave a building in Bat Yam the dubious title of “the ugliest building in the world.” The 12-story apartment building was constructed in the 1970s and resembles Soviet residential blocks. The building is in significant disrepair and after it was filmed by drone and published by a Reddit user for an “Urban Hell” blog, it was ranked even uglier than buildings in Sofia, Bulgaria, or slums in Manila, Philippines and Cape Town, South Africa.

The irony is that Bat Yam is situated adjacent to Tel Aviv, whose skyrocketing real estate prices recently earned it the title of the third most expensive city in the world. Thus, the ugly building would most likely be worth millions to developers seeking to replace it with a more modern tower on the highly valuable land it occupies.
The building overlooks a large shopping complex located on the lower floors which includes, among other things, an event hall, shops and a car parking. It is obviously the combination of the size and the state of neglect that earned the building its inglorious title. It is a building which typifies the mass construction between the 1950s and the 1980s in Israel. A lot of buildings with an austere appearance and without balconies were constructed during this period. Complete with outdated blinds, rusty bars and air conditioner motors hanging outside the building and a roof with satellite dishes and solar panels sticking out.
Israeli Reddit users attempted to defend the construction and claimed that there are many worse houses in other countries. Many users said that the former USSR has numerous similarly drab buildings and residential blocks. Egyptian users claimed that many buildings in Cairo look similar. However all agreed that the price for the Bat Yam building didn’t justify its exterior appearance.
Sorry I’ve seen much uglier buildings first one that comes to mind is the U.N
Just another aspect of the leftist anti Jew attitudes. This mode of construction was common in many parts of the world and you can find tens of thousands similar buildings throughout Egypt, India Pakistan and Sri Lanka to name a few.
It is kind of ugly but likely serves its purpose well.
What is it with the world’s obsession with Israel? As many have mentioned, there are hundreds of buildings in the world that are uglier than this building, hands down. This is certainly no beauty, but ugliest in the world?! Far from it.
The egg box houses in Ramot Polin have been voted the worst for years.
I think we can all agree that this is one very ugly building. Is it the most ugly? It’s up there.
