As reported in B’Chadrei Charedim, in order to strengthen the attendance at Shacharis in the Mir’s main bais medrash, Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, is instituting several changes, designed to adjust the end time to approximately 8:00 instead of 8:10 (on a typical morning)

According to the report, the Rosh Yeshiva said that only Israeli bochurim should daven for the amud. In addition, the recital of ‘Mi Shebeirach’ for cholim will no longer take place after Krias haTorah, rather it will be said as part of the Tehillim recital after Shacharis.

As a former Mir bachur, I would have davened more often with the Yeshiva Minyan if it ended earlier.

Shachris should take 80 minutes just to say all the words for an average reader. That’s 100 words a minute and there are 8000 words which includes a few kepitluch of tehillim. Most shuls do shachris in 45 to 55 minutes so if your not coming earlier than they start and not staying more when they finish then you are not saying all the words and we know the importance of tefilla in our lives. So just like there is a push to slow down drivers so too there should be a push to slow down davening. What does davening mean? I heard rabbi moshe meir Weiss explain that it means דאבינו meaning of the fathers, our forefathers, who formulated the tefillos and you could be sure they said all the words, B’hatzlacha.
