The Ways and Means Committee heard testimony for a Holocaust Education bill–which is about the least controversial legislation imaginable.
An individual named Ayo Kimathi, who claimed to have knowledge of history, yet in reality was exposed as a vicious Jew-hater, testified against the bill.
The bill, aimed at providing grants to schools for Holocaust education and materials, faced strong opposition during discussions. Kimathi suggested that it would be “treasonous” for Black lawmakers to support the bill, as the “real Holocaust” was the suffering of Black people in America over centuries. Another “witness” questioned the accuracy of the 6 million death count for Jewish victims in the Holocaust.
Delegate Mark Edelson, the bill’s sponsor, revealed troubling statistics from a recent survey, showing that 10% of young Americans do not believe the Holocaust happened, 11% think Jews were responsible for it, and in Maryland, 13% held that belief. 23% believed that the Holocaust was either a myth or exaggerated.
In response to Kimathi’s ludicrous objections, Delegate Dalya Attar observed that his vicious hateful rhetoric underscored the necessity of the bill for Holocaust education.
In 2023, Kamathi self-published a book entitled ‘Jews Are the Problem’. How did he become a candidate to express his opinion?
