The Peleg Yerushalmi protesters have ramped up their demonstrations in recent weeks. Last month, members of the group blocked Route 4 near Bnei Brak while others blocked a light rail route in the nearby city of Petah Tikva.
A law that authorizes the Charedi exemption expired in June, and a temporary extension is set to expire at the end of March. A compromise has been discussed however the issue remains contentious.
In the video below, Charedi Journalist Yanki Farber said that no mainstream Charedi leaders take the extremist factions too seriously.
While I OPPOSE going to the IDF as the Torah is our yishmor I want to note that 85 soldiers from yerushalayim died and their parents seeing this is a hillul HAs–m
I enjoyed seeing that tough red headed police lady (?) I wonder if her husband is black and blue too???
Agree that it doesn’t look good,
But Agree too that they have no choice but to speak the Israeli governments language…
Its important to bear in mind that drafting people against their religious beliefs is a bad idea. As you can see from my screen name, i am no hot head. I believe R kook was holy. In fact he was mesdadr kiddushin by the leader of Peleg’s father’s wedding, the holy R Shloma zalman z’l. And those fighting in the army are heros too. However, you need to bear in mind that the army has two issues from a religous perspective.
1) Its imposes secular beliefs and ideas. Even if it is important to protect us, its secular nature is against religious beliefs. And a often when charedim ask them to respect religious beliefs they deny it or the courts reject it.
2)The idea of a boy leaving yeshiva at a young age even if not the biggest learner is a risk to their development.
Does that mean Hesder is wrong? No both sides of this aisle have a torah persepctive and both are holy jews. And to force people who have a very valid torah belief to do something against their religon is just wrong in so many ways
