it’s not illegal to lie, even to a bank, whether you’re donald trump or letitia james. it’s just not nice. but for it to be fraud, the bank needs to be defrauded, but it was a loan and they’re in the business of lending money. plus, a mortgage is fully secured by the value of the property. the problem isn’t in the shady, if not actually illegal, misrepresentation, but in the unequal treatment before the law. it’s not right to prosecute one and not the other.
I think it’s dangerous for us to be so vocal against a local ag.
