Perlmutter had been working in the legal field for 22 years when he was first appointed as an interim Civil Court judge in the Kings County criminal court system by then-mayor Bill de Blasio in 2018, who then appointed him as a Criminal Court judge in 2019. Perlmutter was promoted to acting New York State Supreme Court justice one year ago, and was elected to that position in the 2024 general elections.
Prior to ascending to the Supreme Court bench, Perlmutter devoted significant amounts of time to gaining a Torah perspective on legal matters, studying the Talmudic tractate of Sanhedrin and Makos with Brooklyn activist Ari Noe for a year. Perlmutter had his hand placed on an ArtScroll Chumash when he was sworn in to his newest position by New York State Chief Judge Rowan Wilson.
The son of a lawyer whose father was buried in a tallis that bore the words ‘Tzedek, tzedek tirdof’ – justice, justice you shall seek – Perlmutter said in his induction speech that he takes the sense of responsibility inculcated in him by his father very seriously.
Tributes to Perlmutter poured in on social media in the wake of his swearing in. Brooklyn Democratic leader Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn posted pictures from the January 23rd ceremony on Instagram, while Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher took to X saying, “Congratulations to my constituent Judge Adam Perlmutter, who is now one of Brooklyn’s newest Supreme Court judges.”
“Huge mazels to Judge Adam Perlmutter on his ascension to Supreme Court!,” posted City Councilman Lincoln Restler on X. “Adam has been a stalwart champ for North Brooklyn for years – fighting an incinerator, demanding more park space, and helping to build a stronger community. He will advance justice from the bench.”

Nu nu.
Anyone appointed by deblasio, rest assured is a liberal minded justice… Jewish or not.
Not what this city needs, another liberal judge…
Is he one of a handful of Jewish justices? What’s the news?
I would assume it would be called “affirming in”, as usually frum Yidden pick the choice to affirm and not swear.
may HaShem give him much success. Sounds like a special person.
