WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump on Sunday doubled down on his criticism of Republican New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, mocking him over his fondness for cats and refusing to endorse him in the race. A few weeks ago, Trump had poked fun at Sliwa’s well-known collection of cats, and the president reiterated his concerns, joking that Sliwa might turn Gracie Mansion into a feline refuge.
Sliwa, who is running against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, has struggled in polls, trailing Mamdani by double digits.

Asked by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo whether he would consider endorsing Sliwa, Trump questioned the candidate’s Republican credentials and said, “Is he really a Republican, am I a big fan? This isn’t exactly ideal where he wants to make Gracie Mansion a home for the cats.” He praised past mayors, noting, “Gracie Mansion is a magnificent home of Fiorello La Guardia, and the great mayor Rudy Giuliani… Giuliani was the greatest mayor in the history of New York.”
Regarding Cuomo, who resigned amid allegations of sexual abuse, Trump said endorsing a Democrat “isn’t my thing,” but warned that Mamdani, the progressive frontrunner, would put the city “in big trouble.” He called Mamdani “pretty slick” but insisted the city “will be in big trouble” under his leadership.
Trump has repeatedly labeled Mamdani a “communist,” and some GOP lawmakers have called for his deportation. Mamdani shocked the political establishment with his June primary upset, running on a progressive agenda that included rent freezes and higher taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents.
Can’t blame Trump, Sliwa dumped on him for years on his radio show. Drop out Curtis !

What does Trump have against cats? I don’t like Sliwa, but cats are pretty great. They kill mice. (They kill rats too, but you have to have bigger cats than average for the huge rats in NYC.)
