The victims, aged 13 and 14, were wearing the uniform of the Uruguayan Hebrew Integral School when two men—described as “in their twenties”—recognized them as Jewish and began to harass them, the report said.

“You are Jews, we know what you did,” the aggressors told the boys, according to Jaime Apoj, secretary of Legal Affairs for the Central Israelite Committee of Uruguay (CCIU). The men pushed them and added: “Get lost or we’ll get you.”
As the teenagers tried to flee, the attackers grabbed loose tiles from a nearby construction site and chased them for a block, threatening to use the fragments as weapons.
The pursuit continued to the home of one of the boys, where his mother—who was standing outside—was also targeted.
“Jewish woman, call whoever you want, now we know where you live,” the attackers shouted, before retreating, El Observador reported.
Community Action
The families filed a criminal complaint, which will be supported by the CCIU. In a statement Wednesday, the organization said the boys were “persecuted, harassed, and threatened because they are Jewish,” and vowed to pursue the case fully. Attorney Leonardo Narancio will represent the institution.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the identification of the suspects, though no names have been released so far.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns following recent antisemitic graffiti near Jewish institutions across Montevideo. The CCIU has warned of rising hostility and urged authorities to take firm action.
Authorities continue to investigate as the Jewish community calls for accountability and increased protection for students and institutions.
