NEW YORK – A Black Friday demonstration at Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store escalated into multiple arrests after a coalition of activists staged protests inside the building and on the sidewalk outside, according to social media accounts and witnesses at the scene.

The disruption began when activists entered the store and unfurled banners while chanting, “Apple, Apple, free the Congo!” The group accused the company of benefiting from exploitative cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo and criticized Apple’s alleged ties to ICE and former President Donald Trump. At least one individual was detained by security inside the store.
The demonstration later expanded outside, where pro-Palestinian protesters joined the gathering. The combined groups blocked pedestrian traffic along Fifth Avenue, prompting a significant NYPD response.
Officers made several arrests for disorderly conduct after protesters refused to disperse, police said.
The Fifth Avenue Apple Store — one of the busiest retail locations in the world — remained open, though entry was temporarily slowed as officers managed the crowd.
Apple has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
