JERUSALEM (VINnews) — During the intense battle which took place early Friday morning in the town of Beit Jann in southern Syria, a miracle occurred: a bullet fired at one of the reserve brigade fighters struck his helmet directly but did not penetrate it. The soldier, who was moderately wounded by two additional bullets in his leg, was miraculously saved from a potentially fatal head injury.

The incident took place on Thursday night during an operation carried out by the 55th Brigade as part of Operation “Arrow of the Bashan” against terrorists who were planning attacks on the Israeli Golan heights.

The force entered a building where three wanted members of the Al-Jama’a Al-Islamiya were hiding, arrested them, and on their way out walked into an ambush at close quarters.

In the ensuing firefight, six soldiers were wounded—three seriously, one moderately, and two lightly. IDF forces returned fire, killing two terrorists, and the Air Force was scrambled to assist.

An IDF Humvee that was hit in the shooting became stuck and could not be extracted. It was later destroyed from the air to prevent classified equipment from falling into hostile hands. The wounded were evacuated by helicopter to Rambam and Sheba Medical Centers. The IDF reported that the families of the wounded had been notified and that forces continue to reinforce their deployment in the area.

According to the IDF, the operation was based on intelligence gathered over recent weeks and focused on arresting terrorists from the Al-Jama’a Al-Islamiya group active in Beit Jann, located 11 kilometers from the border.

The IDF stated that one of the two brothers arrested had previously launched a rocket toward Israel and planted explosive devices. The operation was part of a larger anti-terrorist crackdown during which numerous suspects across Syria have been arrested in recent weeks.

According to various reports from Syria, at least 14 people were killed during the incident, including armed operatives and local residents. Other sources claimed that additional individuals remained trapped under the rubble of a structure struck during the battle.
