The report in Tuesday’s Times (http://nyti.ms/1F7LpIB ) says Heastie held onto the Bronx apartment even though a judge had told him to sell it.
Heastie’s mother, Helene, pleaded guilty in 1999 to writing checks to herself from a nonprofit agency where she had worked.
She was ordered to sell the Bronx apartment as part of her sentence.
Helene Heastie died three weeks after she was sentenced. Carl Hastie owned the home for another six years and finally sold if for a profit of nearly $200,000 in 1995.
A spokesman for Heastie, Michael Whyland, tells the Times that Heastie conducted himself with integrity.
