Photo by Yonatan Sindel/Flash90Jerusalem – The Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office on Monday filed an indictment with the Jerusalem District Court against Yishai Schlissel for murder, 6 counts of attempted murder, and for causing other injuries in the July stabbing attack the Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade.

The stabbings horrified the country, garnered rare across-the-board condemnation from even major orthodox religious figures and drew international attention due to its ferocity and the footage of the attacks.

Schlissel, who was previously imprisoned for 10 years for stabbing three people at the 2005 Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade, was arrested in the midst of a stabbing rampage at the parade, just three weeks after being released from jail, killing 16-year-old Shira Banki and wounding five others.

On August 5, the court ordered a psychiatric evaluation of Schlissel in order to see if he is mentally competent to stand trial and the psychiatrist eventually found him to be sane despite his alleged spree of violence and his attempt not to cooperate with the evaluation.

The prosecution also wanted to have a psychiatric evaluation as early as possible, even before the indictment, so that it could avoid any later attacks on a conviction of Schlissel with the rebuttal that it even made sure that he got a chance to make the insanity plea had he wished to.

In addition, Schlissel has repeatedly told the court at hearings that he does not recognize its authority and has refused to be represented by an attorney.

Public defenders have tried to convince Schlissel to change his position, but he has stood by his guns and has refused to say much of anything other than that he was not interested in being represented.

At the August 5 hearing, when the court gave Schlissel a last chance at being represented by the public defender, he answered, “I am not interested in being represented. You have no authority to judge. This [the hearing] is not in accordance with the holy Torah. I don’t want to take part in this illegal show, not by myself and not through any representative.”

Following Schlissel’s response and a review of documents submitted by the prosecution, Judge Anat Singer decided there was sufficient evidence against Schlissel to justify a pre-indictment psychiatric observation.

What makes you say “in a way her neshoma was saved from Gehinom” when it’s more likely that Shamayim said ‘enough of her sins’. Who knows if this sinful soul will even ‘merit’ Gehinom?

I’m in Amsterdam now and all they talk about is the lack of education of the Frum in the states. You’re one of the people who need to get an education. Gayness begins at conception. Look up the word.

I find the inference to comparison with Pinchas a personal affront to Pinchas. He asked Moshe Rabbenu first. He did NOT take law into his own hands. This rotzeyach did, and he has blood of one murder and several assaults on his hands. We should all approach the Yemai Hadin with the hope that such people get incarcerated. Our community is not safe from such maniacs if they circulate among us. Can someone tell me whether there is a true talmid chochom behind the “zeal”, or is he obsessed with one and only one thing? I also with the to’eyva parade would stop. But I will NOT pasken the shailoh about kano’in pog’in boh when it is my personal opinion where I feel strongly about it. That is why we are instructed to have a Rav and to avoid doubt. That is why we need to have a Rav who will guide us. When we allow ourselves to become our own Rav, there is trouble, bias, and evil decisions.

During Elul, there is much to repent, and insulting Pinchos, as NycNyc did here is one example.

Just for you information. Those who wish to equate the act of this man with קנאות, zealousness, is wrong.
According to Jewish law, קנאים פוגעים בו, is only when the murdered person is in the act of committing the immoral act, as פינחס and מתתיהו. Any killing done afterwards is simple murder, punishable in Jewish court as such.

All you anonymous commentators who are up in arms about the attack on the gay parade are mute on the filthy parade on yerushalayim. You people are brainwashed by liberal media and think that the gay parade was a mere expression of freedom and democracy. Why do you think Iran will now get over a 150 billion dollars to use in buying missiles and other such weapons. Besides their ability to build nukes. Those marching in the parade are rodfim. They are bringing down Heavens wrath and some of you commentate it’s just an expression of freedom. It’s an expression of rebellion. That’s why NO rabbi dared to condemn Rav schlissels act. Name one. Not Satmar not belz not vishnitz not brisk not lakewood not agudah. All frum Jews realized it was an act that could save israel from being nuked. As far as pinchas asking moshe about killing zimri. He did not. Had he asked he would not be able to carry out the slaying halachiclly. And the to her chocham who stated you can only kill in the act , so would you support yishai schlissel going into a gay club and putting a dagger into two perverts in the act. Probably not. So don’t drei a kop about shlissel killing in the act. Here he did for the honor of G-d to save jerusalem from being hit by irans new missiles.

Looking at his scary face it is hard to believe when people say “We are made in the Image of God.” Lock him up for good and throw away the keys. People like him shouldn’t get any privilege to believe and practice their dangerous nonsense when it harms other humans.

Regarding those of you, who call yourselves frum, and implicity condone what that deranged lunatic did is obscene!
When Yitzchak Rabin was killed, Bibi Netanyahu stated that “we must fight with ballots, and not with bullets”. The deranged lunatic who killed that sixteen year old girl, and wounded several others, must remain in prison, until the day he dies. The Israeli police should have kept better tabs on that nutcase. Also, a person in his mental condition should never have been released after ten years, as he showed no remorse for his prior crimes. I’m wondering what pressure was placed on the legal system to have him released early? If it was a secular Jew who perpetrated the same crimes that he was convicted of ten years ago, would they have also been released so soon? Again, for those of you who support that deviant, for whatever reason, it is an absolutely shanda!!!

We are well into Elul, and I am shocked and saddened by the nasty and negative tone of many of these comments. How can frum people be so insensitive and vindictive? Is this what Yiddiskeit is about? We all need to do some introspection and Teshuva.

You say schlissel has a scary face. Look at the faces and tattoos of the gays marching. This is a shanda
The holy city where the Bais hamikdosh stood being defiled worse than sodom. The nation that stood at mount Sinai date not tolerate homosexuality. Shame shame shame. You want the kosel, har habayis First clean up the streets full of marching perverts and the women off the wall group.

The sin of homosexuality is more severe than murder. Ask your local orthodox rabbi.

According to Judaism you need two kosher witnesses to warn in a case of murder to facilitate a death penalty. In this case it was a modern day pinchus who took on for the honor of yerushslayim. No Rav condemned it other than the chief rabbi who gets a salary from the secular government. When a recognized Rav or rebbe will condemn yishai schlissel then will talk.
