Tehran, Iran – Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said today the destruction of Iran’s arch-foe Israel was “imminent,” and called for continued resistance against the Jewish state, state media reported.

“I am very optimistic about the future of Palestine and believe Israel is on the steep path of decline and deterioration,” Khamenei told Ramadan Abdullah, the secretary general of Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad.
“God willing, its destruction will be imminent,” the Islamic republic’s all-powerful leader said. “Continued resistance and hope for victory should be taken into consideration.”
Tensions have soared between Iran and Israel over the past five years since hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power.
Ahmadinejad has drawn international condemnation by repeatedly predicting that Israel is doomed to disappear and dismissing the Holocaust as a “myth.”
Israel, the sole if undeclared nuclear power in the Middle East, has called for tougher action against Tehran over its controversial atomic programme and accuses it of seeking nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.

To all those proposing war with Iran:
What taxes do you propose increasing to pay for the cost of a THIRD war, against a country that is armed to the teeth and larger and more powerful than the combination of the two countries in which we are already at war?
Will your children volunteer for the large army that will be needed for the invasion?
How will you fund the many Jewish communal organizations that will go out of business because all their funding will be diverted to support the war effort?
How will you convince Americans to support a THIRD war when the populace has lost patience with the first two and is totally unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary for pursuing even modest goals?
But most importantly:
What exactly do you expect to accomplish with a war? We’ve been in Afghanistan for eight years, and Iraq for almost seven, and in the former we still have a totally corrupt, unpopular regime in power with the Taliban controlling much of the country, and in the latter we still have an anti-Semitic government in power that remains at war with Israel. What makes you think that we will be able to replace the Ayatollahs with something better?
This Shabbos we will bensch Rosh Chodesh Adar and Purim is less than three weeks ago. Israel could probably cause inestimable damage to Iran if it wanted to, but the rest of the world would then turn against Israel, so we need to do what the Jews of Shushan did – daven to Hashem for another Purim miracle.
