Lordia Rudd says she was fired from her office- manager job at a Bronx rabbinical school after complaining she was discriminated against for not keeping kosher.

Rudd claims in a lawsuit against the Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School in Riverdale that she was not allowed to use the office microwave “because it was kosher and she was not.”

When she complained to her supervisor about discrimination, he fired her, explaining that she seemed unhappy on the job.

    The school denies any wrongdoing.

Rudd says she was the first and only non-Jewish employee of the nonprofit when she began work in November 2007.

She received positive evaluations, praise and a bonus for “exceptional work performance,” but two employees were “rude and hostile,” court papers say.

“They wouldn’t let her eat in the kitchen,” her lawyer, Michael O’Neill, told The Post.

    BS”D

She should have (1) never been hired, or (2) made to sign a paper saying that she was aware of this being a religious institution, and that she was not knowledgeable of Jewish law, and agreed to not use the kitchen w/o help or supervision. Who expects a goy to get it? And we’re not supposed to let them into the kitchen, anyways. How is she not supposed to feel discriminated against – she doesn’t get it?

I think she’s right! everybody shouldve stopped using the kitchen so as to not discriminate against her.

that’s derived from our liberal teachings. Individuals have more rights then the general public. ie. let the public fly a kite if the individual requests it in the name of racism.

This has got to be a first: fired over Lunch! Only in NY can such pettiness rise to the level of insanity.

I see no base to her lawsuit..I have 22 employees and 3 of them are NOT jewish and thney know the kitchen is a Kosher kitchen and they never even go in there. A kitchen belongs to the company and its not the LAW to provide a kitchen for employees..If a jewish company keeps a kosher kitchen then someone who dosent keep kosher does NOT belong there..Can anyone force any US govt.office or state, city or just any company to install kosher microwaves or kosher sinks because he is kosher..NO way..

There aren’t enough unemployed Jews that they had to hire her in the first place?

She sounds like a witch. She obviously knew the microwave was for kosher food only and tried to use it for treif food. She disrespectecd the kosher laws that the other employees tried to keep and still had the chutzpah to complain about it. This signifies her abrasive attitude, which obviously led to her dismissal.
The first sent. in this article is misleading as it only represents Rudds side of the story.

And this is “Yeshiva” Chovevei Torah that has spearheaded the concept of “Tikkun Oilam”. What a great example.

I doubt they said she wasn’t kosher…they probably said the food wasn’t kosher.

If you do not like the rules, don’t go in the kitchen! You must understand the rules to begin with. If they are kosher kitchen, then its a kosher kitchen PERIOD! Find a job elsewhere. This is just to make a quick dollar bill.

Employment at will is the rule in the U.S., they can fire her for whatever reason they want to as long as it doesn’t break Title VII (discrimination because of sex/race). She has no case.

Maybe the rabbah will let her use her microwave.

At least so-called “Yeshivat” Chovevei Torah cares about kosher if not other facets of Judasim.

This is all part of a scam to make Chovevei Torah look Orthodox. It is their innovative way of fighting Agudah. Don’t believe it..

The DAY an institution tells a Jew they are not allowed to use a kitchen……for any reason…….you would have the ADL doing cartwheels in the parking lot. Its about time the biggest racists of all time have been called out.

For all those who are licking their lips over Rabbi Weiss’s problems — you should all be ashamed of yourselves. First, you all claim that he’s not a true frum Jew. Then, when he upholds halacha, you are happy that he’s having problems.

Sorry, folks, I do not agree. If the school provides a kitchen and microwave for their staff, it should be available to all. They could have accommodated her by buying a second microwave, or by making sure that everyone who uses the microwave knows to double wrap their food.
By the way, the one place I worked where I would not use the microwave was the company that provided a separate microwave for their kosher employees. It was kept locked, and looked like it was never cleaned. I couldn’t tell if it had been used for meat or dairy or both.

I don’t see anywhere in the article where it states that she was unwilling to follow the rules of kashrut.
