Spokesman Edmond Ross said Wednesday that Abramoff was released Tuesday from a minimum-security federal prison camp in western Maryland and is at a halfway house somewhere in the mid-Atlantic region.
Abramoff was sentenced in 2006 to nearly six years in prison for a fraudulent Florida casino deal. He got another four-year sentence in 2008 in a separate case.
Ross says Abramoff could spend the last few weeks of his sentence on home confinement before his scheduled release date of Dec. 4.
A long-running Abramoff corruption investigation led to the convictions of a former congressman, Republican Bob Ney and other lobbyists and officials.
B’H He’s a great man an lets hope he will be able to get back to work some time soon
Boruch matir asurim.
So all you MO on this site are ok with him b/c he has an ivy league education and no beard………
I happen to know the family from around the community and they are amazing upstanding people. Jack included. They are very caring people. Unfortunately mistakes were made and now the whole family wants a new start. We, as fellow yidden, should be open and accepting to make the creating of a new life for them successful.
pretty impressive he sat for 4 yrs out of his combined 10 yr sentence. how did he pull that off????? of course he must have some big pull on the higher ups. when there are so many other frimme yidden who also made mistakes but arent getting off that easy….
I can’t wait for some ape to call it a kiddush Hashem .
Please. Mr. Abramoff just disapear from the public scene .
Halfway house , Why not to a house of ill-repute , where he belongs.
The people who are claiming he has secret influences left and money hidden away have no idea of the reality. Every one of his political contacts were quick to bury him, and besides for the ENORMOUS fine levied against him by the federal government, he had just lost millions funding a doomed high school, along with the myriads of other cheseds he was involved with. Huge baal chessed as well as a genuinely kind person, I hope he is matzliach in putting his life and that of his family back together.
