It is during daytime hours. The people coming in are a group of organized crime group commonly known as ‘gypsies’ or ‘transient offenders,'” said Det. Sgt. Lucy Graziano of the Nassau Co. CAPS

Graziano said that usually a woman or child from the group will approach the homeowners and try to distract them asking for a glass of water, or to use the bathroom or telephone. “While you’re helping that person, thinking you’re doing a good thing, the other person slips in and steals your valuables, and some have been caught on videotape,” she said.
