The city Department of Transportation is accepting applications for “slow zones” where the speed would be reduced from 30 to 20 miles per hour.

According to the agency’s website, a zone will be a “self-enforcing, reduced-speed area.” It will be denoted by speed bumps, markings and other “traffic calming treatments.”

A city councilman who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn tells the Staten Island Advance on its website Friday (http://bit.ly/sV5ekU ) that “the key is finding the right streets.”

Councilman James Oddo says people speed on Staten Island “just about every day on every street.”

Applications must be received by Feb. 3.

#1 , i was about to say what about the speeding bikes.

New york is already a slow zone because of the bike lanes. Creating these rules is just another way for the government to control civilians.
