Monsey, NY – Orange and Rockland Utilities had not solved the mystery of flickering lights, but hoped it had at least resolved the problem.
For several months, lights are flickering off and on, mostly during early morning hours in O&R’s Upper Saddle River-Monsey circuit area. The circuit, which serves about 1,800 electric customers, is bounded by Saddle River Road, Pinebrook Road, Route 45, Route 59, South Monsey Road and New County Road, the company said. The area is in parts of both Airmont and Chestnut Ridge.

The problem prompted an O&R division engineer, Jeremy McVey, to send a letter to customers in the affected area. He explained in the Dec. 27 correspondence that there was a system problem, not an individual customer problem.
McVey also said he would send another letter once the problem was resolved. Neighbors have not yet received such a letter.
Danny Patrick, who lives in the affected neighborhood said that while finding the exact source of the flickering had been difficult, it would eventually be tracked down. “I know for a fact that they are working on it,” he said. “It’s just going to take a little time.”
