“It’s no mystery why taxpayers have lost faith in an enforcement system that slaps them with astronomical fines for unpreventable tickets,” the Brooklyn Democrat said in a statement.
The legislation, which Mr. Felder plans to introduce tomorrow, would reduce the fines to $50 from $100 for first-time offenders. It also would change the afternoon window when the city can ticket to 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
In 2004, the council passed a law establishing two one-hour time periods when the city could ticket, but Mr. Felder now says the afternoon time is unfair because most homeowners are at work and can’t look after their property. [nysun]
