Jerusalem, Israel – A notorious Israeli criminal described by U.S. authorities as one of the world’s biggest drug traffickers, and is on the DEA’s list of the 44 biggest global drug traffickers, returned to Israel today to serve his prison term for his conviction on drug charges in South Florida.
A U.S. District judge in January sentenced Zeev Rosenstein, 52, for conspiring to distribute more than 850,000 Ecstasy pills. As part of the plea bargain, Rosenstein will serve the time in Israel, from where he had been extradited in March 2006.

Rosenstein’s return created a stir in Israel. There have been at least seven attempts on Rosenstein’s life, including one in Tel Aviv in 2003 in which three bystanders were killed and he emerged unscathed. Now Rosenstein’s travel was heavily guarded, with several security vehicles escorting the white van in which he was sitting. Rosenstein wore a bulletproof vest on the El Al flight, and boarded two hours before the other passengers. He was cuffed by his hands and feet the entire flight.
Although he is secular, Rosenstein is married to an ultra-Orthodox woman who passionately maintains his innocence.
The plea deal calls for Rosenstein to pay a $17,500 fine. [Sun-Sentinel]

Dear 5:52pm
it is very hard to believe that there is a man that does keep taharas hamishpacha unless he is religious. it’s difficult enough for religious people.
She could be a baalas teshuva and why can’t she keep taharas hamishpacha even if he’s secular? I know couples who even though one of them observes more than the other, they respect each other and don’t hinder the more observant one.
Why can’t Jonathan Pollard serve his sentence in Israel????
he’s secular but his wife is “ultra-orthodox”.
that’s an absurd statement.
Food issues aside, taharas hamishpacha would be improbable; to say the least.
what a joke.
