Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther of Forestburgh and Senator John Bonacic are the sponsors. Gunther said a high-speed rail could make it easier for people who live in New York, but want to move north, to commute to work. There would be other benefits as well, she said.
"We've seen a lot regarding air quality, congestion on Route 17, I think it would help with tourism, and I think it will save gas in the crisis regarding the use energy and fuel," Gunther said. "It's important to get mass transit to all parts of New York State and I think this is a great beginning for a community 90 miles outside New York City."
Gunther said the rail line would make sense since Sullivan and Orange counties are among the fastest growing in the state. [Mid Hudson News]
As usual people are focusing on the smaller benefits of this high speed rail connection. The main benefit will be the ability to leave work early, make a quick trip to the Casinos that will be built in Monticello and get back home before your wife realizes your gone.
well don’t buy or move so fast
9 years ago thay startd to bulid the railway from the poconos pa
(scranton pa) its still not runing..
(i wonder if our grandkids will see

i’ll take it even if its an hour.
Indeed.
If they can get me from upstate to Manhattan in 30 minutes, I will be looking for a house up North!!!
If they would go direct to JFK would be great too, as I can leave my car at JFK every night.
Wow, it’s about time.
